Privacy Policy
Last updated 27 July 2026
The short version: FLUTTER records anonymous gameplay and crash statistics so we can tell which realms are too hard and which builds are broken. There is no account, no advertising ID, and nothing that identifies you personally. You can switch it off in the game at any time, and we never sell anything to anyone.
This policy covers the FLUTTER mobile game and the website at flutter.smugfacegaming.com (also reachable at smugfacegaming.com/flutter). The data controller is Smug Face Gaming, contactable at admin@smugfacegaming.com.
The game
What we collect
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| An install identifier | A random number generated on the device the first time you open the game, stored only on that device. | So a series of events can be recognised as coming from one installation rather than being an unrelated jumble. |
| Gameplay events | Starting and ending a flight, score reached, realm reached, challenges completed, birds unlocked or selected, opening the shop. | To see where players get stuck, whether the difficulty curve works, and which content actually gets used. |
| Device and app information | Device model, operating system name and version, the app version, and whether the build is a debug build. | To reproduce bugs on the hardware they actually happen on. |
| Crash and error reports | Whether the previous session ended unexpectedly, plus the tail of the game's own log file when it recorded an error. | To find and fix crashes and script errors. |
Log excerpts are filtered before they leave the device to remove filesystem paths that would otherwise contain your computer or account name.
What we deliberately do not collect
- No name, email address, account, or login — the game has none.
- No advertising identifier, and no advertising or marketing of any kind.
- No hardware or device serial number. The identifier described above is a random number belonging to the installation, not to you or your device; deleting the app discards it, and reinstalling produces a new one.
- No location data.
- No contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access.
- No free text you have typed.
How to turn it off
Open Settings in the game and switch off Share anonymous stats. This takes effect immediately: nothing further is recorded, and anything recorded but not yet sent is discarded from the device rather than delivered.
Who processes it
Statistics are sent to PostHog, an analytics provider that stores and processes the data on our behalf on servers in the European Union. They are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. We do not sell, rent, or share this data with anybody else, and it is not used to build advertising profiles or to track you across other apps or websites.
The website
If you enter your email address in the waitlist form, we store that address and the date you submitted it, in a database on our own server. It is used for exactly one thing: a single email telling you the game has launched. It is not passed to anyone else, and there is no newsletter.
The site sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts, or trackers — everything it serves comes from our own server. As with any website, our web server keeps standard access logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. IP addresses are also held briefly in memory to rate-limit the signup form; they are not stored in the waitlist database.
Legal bases
Where UK and EU data protection law applies, we rely on:
- Legitimate interests for anonymous gameplay and stability statistics — understanding whether the game works is necessary to maintain it, and the data is minimal, not linked to an identity, and can be switched off.
- Consent for the waitlist email, given when you submit the form and withdrawable at any time.
How long we keep it
Gameplay and diagnostic events are retained for up to 24 months, then deleted. Waitlist addresses are deleted once the launch email has been sent, or sooner on request.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to our processing it. Email admin@smugfacegaming.com and we will respond within one month.
Because the game holds no account, we cannot connect game statistics to you from your name or email alone. To have game data deleted, open Settings in the game, tap Install ID to copy the identifier, and include it in your email. For waitlist data, simply write from the address you signed up with. You also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
FLUTTER is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date above. Material changes affecting data already collected will be announced in the game.
